Marie Ens attended high school in Chilliwack, BC. (class of 1952) As a young woman she attended Canadian Bible College in Regina from 1952-1956 where she met her husband Norman. After pastoring a rural Saskatchewan church, they went to Cambodia as missionaries in 1960. After some good but tumultuous years, Marie’s family evacuated out of Cambodia just weeks before the Khmer Rouge marched into the capital city in 1975. They relocated to France and worked alongside Cambodian refugees who had fled there in great numbers. Marie was widowed at 56 when Norman passed away from a heart attack in 1991. After years of war, Cambodia finally reopened to the West in 1994 and Marie was able to return on her own. She had more good years serving there until she was ‘invited to retire’ by the mission when she reached 66 years of age. But retirement was not in her plans. Now at the age of 83, Marie remains in Cambodia where she directs ‘Rescue’, an AIDS orphanage which is home to hundreds of children. She plans to remain in the land she has grown to love over the years with no plans to ever retire. She has great stories to tell about her justice/compassion work in Cambodia. She will inspire you with her zeal for life and her determination to never stop serving others.
